Firefighter Marathon for BC Children's Hospital
My name is Reid Taylor, I am a Firefighter here in BC. For the past 5 years I have been doing a fundraiser for our local children’s hospital, BC Childrens Hospital. With a lot of hard work and support I am proud to say we have raised over $60,000 for kids in their time of need. My wife and I have a young family, a 7-year-old boy, 5 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. When she was born, she had to stay in the NICU for 2 weeks for medical issues, and was transferred to BC Children’s Hospital for final tests before she was discharged. I wanted to put a bigger effort into this campaign, so instead of running the 40 yard dash in full firefighting gear which I did in conjunction with Rich Eisen of the NFL Network. I will be running a marathon (42KM or 26 Miles) in full firefighting gear weighing 45 pounds.
Last year while training for the marathon I started to experience chest pain which became too severe to ignore. Upon checking into hospital, doctored discovered I had a 90% blockage in the main artery of my heart and I needed a stent. After a year of figuring out medications for heart disease I finally feel like my health and fitness levels have returned, so I am happy to continue the tradition of raising money for our Childrens Hospital.
Along with running the marathon I will be hosting an online fundraising event from February 24 to March 10, 2024, and I am hoping to have your support. 100% of money raised goes directly to BC Childrens Hospital
