As a lot of you know, I've been growing my hair out since the start (well I guess technically a bit before the start) of the pandemic. At the time I decided to just keep growing my hair because I had never really done that before, and I figured why not.

But during the pandemic, I found out that one of my best friends got the news that she had cancer, so now growing my hair out had a purpose. I joked to her that I would grow my hair long enough to make it into a wig for her, but then I looked into it a bit more seriously, and discovered Wigs for Kigs BC.

Wigs for Kids BC (W4K BC) helps kids living with cancer, live better.

A proudly volunteer-run organization, W4K BC provides funding to cover the cost of custom-made human-hair wigs for children and teens at BC Children's Hospital who have suffered hair loss due to cancer treatment or other serious illnesses. Donations to W4K BC also help families pay for medications and feeding supplies that are essential for treatment but not covered by their medical plan.

When a child has a serious illness it takes an enormous toll on the entire family–both emotionally and financially. The assistance W4K BC provides makes the family's burden a little lighter so they can focus more of their time and energy on caring for their sick child.

By contributing to W4K BC, you are making a tremendous difference in the lives of children living with cancer - and their families - across the province.

So while my friend ended up beating cancer and not needing my hair (she rocked the baldness like a champ) I think this is the best thing I can do with it. So while I am supplying the hair, I would love if we could raise a bit of money to help with the costs of actually creating a wig for a child who could really use it.

I've already booked my haircut at Collective Beauty Studio in Steveston on June 24th for the Steveston Wigs for Kids BC Weekend, so let's make it happen!
