As many of you know both Adam (as a child) and Liam have had to spend lots of time at Children's Hospital for their genetic condition Hereditary Multiple Exostoses (HME).

HME is a rare genetic disorder that causes multiple benign lumps (exostoses) to form on the patient’s bones, usually at the ends of long bones.  As the individual ages and gets taller, these lumps grow with them, sometimes growing to significant sizes.  The lumps can affect the alignment of joints, shorten limbs, and cause interference with adjacent organs.  Further, there is always a small chance that these benign tumors can become a rare form of cancer called chondrosarcoma.

Both Liam and Adam have had multiple surgeries – Liam alone had 3 surgeries by the age of 3 and will likely require many more as a child, and as an adult.

The Children's Hospital has been wonderful to our family and taken such great care of Liam.  The care staff goes above and beyond to make your child's stay at the hospital as comfortable as possible.  In addition to the many amenities they offer, the staff at Children’s Hospital work hard to help make the kid’s feel as close to being at home when they cannot be.  For these reasons, The Children's Hospital Foundation is a cause that is very important to our family.

This year for my birthday I wanted to raise funds for Children's Hospital. So our family is participating in the RBC Race for the Kids fundraiser.  We are doing the 2KM fun run on June 2, 2019.  Our family goal is to raise $500.  If you wish to help support our family in reaching our goal, please donate to our family team on this page.  Anything will help!

Thank you in advance!

Funds raised through the 2019 event will support childhood cancer programs and research as well as mental health initiatives.

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation's signature running event and largest family fun run in Vancouver has raised over $14 million since it began in 1986. This has been made possible through the support of the runners and walkers of all ages and abilities who participate and help raise much-needed funds and awareness for child health in BC. Please join RBC Race for the Kids and help reach this year's $1 million fundraising goal to support childhood cancer programs and research as well as mental health initiatives at BC Children’s Hospital.
