Love for Lilee

Lilee-Jean Frances Whittle was the daughter of Chelsey Whittle and Andrew Putt. When LJ was 10 months old they went from being a loving family at home cherishing Lilee's milestones and growing with her, to falling into a world of surgeries, hospital living, and lots of chemotherapy, with an unknown future.

In October, 2011 She was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a very aggressive brain cancer.  Because of the communities surrounding this family, both Chelsey and Andrew were able to focus on Lilee without financial burden.

In March, 2013 after successful surgeries and chemotherapy treatments, new tumor was found inside Lilee's head.

Her time was limited, 3-6 months, and the family Danced in the Rain giving Lilee as many life experiences as possible. Although she spent more than half of her short life in and out of BC's Children's Hospital, she lived her life to the fullest, and that has so much to do with the Love for Lilee Community and the BCCH community.

Lilee-Jean Frances passed away at Canuck Place Children's Hospital on September 6th, 2013 curled up in her mommy's arms.

Last year the Love for Lilee Team raised over $10,000 for Cancer and Mental Health Research, and has raised over $45,000 since the team began.

This year we are focusing on recruiting team mates! Since we are no longer doing Burgers & Brew, we want to make the run itself be the event where we can all get together and celebrate Lilee-Jeans life as well as getting some exercising and raising money for a great cause that is dear to our hearts.  Our theme is based on opting out of the race t-shirt, as it saves the run itself money, and wearing Love for Lilee tshirts (purchased by donation to be determined), so that we look like a true team!

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation's signature running event and largest family fun run in Vancouver has raised over $14 million since it began in 1986. This has been made possible through the support of the runners and walkers of all ages and abilities who participate and help raise much-needed funds and awareness for child health in BC. Funds raised through the 2019 event will support childhood cancer programs and research as well as mental health initiatives.

Please join RBC Race for the Kids and help reach this year's $1 million fundraising goal to support childhood cancer programs and research as well as mental health initiatives at BC Children’s Hospital.

Your action today - joining our RBC Race for the Kids team or donating to our team - is helping BC Children's Hospital to better understand childhood cancers and mental health conditions, allowing caregivers to better support BC kids. Thank you.
